apart from writing and planning the episodes, i also directed them as well. this was really stressful, especially in the first episode. over time it got easier and people were listening to me a bit more, but the first episode didn't go according to plan.
on the shoot we kept on getting people walking into the classroom and teachers were disrupting our shoot and letting students in. it got really hectic and nobody else in my group was really dismissing them so that is what i did on that particular shoot. i told teachers to bugger off:) though looking back the shoot was a disaster, we got the work done and we managed to get all the shots filmed. i like to think that meant i did my job properly. the group did get annoyed at me but they thanked me for it afterwards because they knew that we wouldn't have got the work done otherwise.
i also directed the trailers that we made for each episode. not a big job but i was just explaining the idea behind each one and then thinking of ways we could film them. everyone else in the group had creative input too mind you.
the second shoot was a lot better, we managed to find a room, after scouting for one for about an hour, and we started to shoot. people were sticking to their roles better and were acting together better. it made my job easier. the sound supervisor wasn't there so laurence had to do sound as well as filming for this particular episode. he did a great job because its not easy doing too important jobs like that. we didn't have any interruptions this time which was good aswell. also, aimee had to leave at 2.00pm on the day of the shoot so i made good use of time management skills by filming all of her stuff first.
the third episode was a toddle to film, because most of it was going to be jazzed up with effects anyway, there wasn't that much i had to direct. we were all really excited about this episode as well so porale was high enough without me trying to pump it up. there were a few shots that we didn't get but we managed to edit without and still make the episode work.
i directed hayden and alex to edit the 1st episode and this didn't go so well. the only things i said to them were to censor all the swearing and not to cut it too much. they managed to deny both of those requests and because of this, our episode got a lot of dismissal. but it was alright, they were just experimenting to see if it worked or not. for the next episodes, that i edited with someone else, we decided to keep the cutting simple and less jumpy.
