after the class was split into 2 different groups, everyone in each individual group had quite a bit role. initially i was just going to be the script writer but that changed when we got into the smaller group.
script:
my first job was writing the script for the first episode. i took on board the title, which was detention deficit, and the character profiles that the group had decided on and were all happy with and starting writing the script. i wanted the first episode to not follow too much of a narrative, but let the characters speak their mind a bit and through learning about them and watching them interact with eachother, that would hold the pace. i wrote it with swear words because the intended target audience is 16-21 year olds and its about teenagers in detention, people that age in that situation swear a lot. just after we begun the edit we had to censor the swearing though due to the producers, teachers, not liking it and thinking it wasnt working. we werent happy but when i wrote the other 2 episodes i beared that in mind and left the swearing out. i researched other words instead that were non offensive.
i also used references to films in the first episode to reach an active audience that would understand the jokes. little lines from shawshank redemption for example were used.
in the second episode i wanted there to be a storyline involved. i used the famous trapped scenario that is so overused but so overdone. i just used that as a good ending really. i wanted mostly social interaction between characters. there's no swearing in the second episode, i used different words such as 'wazzock' and 'turd'. non offensive words that still have the same effect, to a point.
references in the second episode include lines from bladerunner and toystory 2. the, 'use your head' quote that buzz says to rex beofre they use his head to open a vent. the good thing about this reference is when we got feedback, we realised that people had noticed and thought it was funny.
the third episode was quickly written because we had such short time before the deadline. i quicly wrote a basic script that was kept to quite well though in some of the scenes the inprovisation worked much better because its more neutral and funny. the effects was something i worked round, i knew we were incorporating them some how so i wrote the script with them in mind. it was easy and didn't take long.
overall i think the writing of the scripts got better over time. if i was to be critical of my own work, i'd say my favourite script is the second one because it's a really good narrative and it was fun to write. though the third episode works well and is really bizzare and interesting, i don't think the episode structure works quite as well as the second one. i was happy with the first one and so was the group, but after censoring the swearwords i just got annoyed that i included them. it was okay though because we took on board the reflections and feedback we got and made the episodes better. i think that i wrote the scripts well and the group were happy as well which is the most important thing.
