todays meeting

today in the lesson we were given roles for the rest of the project and we had a meeting discussing our ideas for the project. the first thing we did was elect chairs who would run the meetings held. the way we did this was we elected people and then had a vote to see who got the most. after deciding for a while I voted for alex and tim to be the chairs. considering the importance of the role, i believe that this took far too long to decide and that we didn't discuss it properly. to my mind we don't speak as a whole, there are several different groups of people who are reluctant to participate in group activities. though this was a problem alex and tim did a very good job running the meeting and i believe it was a wise decision electing them.

the next thing the group did was we discussed ideas for the webisodes. the way we did it was we wrote ideas on a post it note and then talked about which ones worked well. we came up with several different ideas but in the end we decided that mine and haydens idea would work the best. my idea was that the webisode is based in a detention room after school and the same 5 people (regulars) are always there. each episode though I introduce a new character for that episode. theres conflict between the people in the room and we wanted to incorporate flashbacks as well so that, for a moment, it wouldn't just be filmed in one room. this would make it more interesting. the genre we chose was comedy. we believed this would be easier and a lot more fun to do. we then discussed characters that could be involved but the teacher rightly suggested that the roles for the class was more important, so we moved on.

the way we elected roles was the same way we elected chairs, people voted for who they thought would be best suited and then the person with the most votes got assigned the job. in the end i got the job of writer which i was happy with because i had some good strong ideas to work with my concept which we went with too. i was going to be working with alex, hayden and matt hornby which i was pleased about because we all get on really well and we all had some great ideas as to how it could go.

some people weren't even talking. then at the end of discussing the roles, they were asked what they wanted to do and they weren't interested. then some of us were shouted at due to the fact the our shouting stopped others from talking. i'm afraid that this wasn't true, though at times i was talking over people. there was nothing stopping them from joining in the discussion. in order to get the best end result, people need to embrace the idea and have fun.

roles:
directors: kirk, dave
editor: laurence
cameramen: matt L, tara, alex
title designer: matt H, hayden
casting director: mike
sound: philippa, sam
money handler: dave
writers: james, hayden, ales, matt h, alie
marketing: dave, alie
interweb: ashley

though we all got jobs in the end, the meeting to my mind didn't go so well. people were shouting to get heard and people were not being listened to. philippa and hayden tried several times to make a point but it was dismissed and then outruled before they'd even said it. i must say, to begin with i was acting as the chair purely because nothing was getting done and i didn't want to waste time; but other people in the class weren't even listening to alex at times. there's conflict in the class anyway. i believe that if people don't bite their tongue at times and work together with the rest of the group, nothing will get done. i only hope that it goes well. i have confidence in most of the roles. i know that dave and kirk will be brilliant directors.
